THE COUNTDOWN TO MATRIC RESULTS BEGIN

As the anticipation builds for the class of 2023 to receive their Matric Exam Results. The pressure, excitement and anxiousness also mounts as Matriculants and their families await to hear their fate.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) extends its unwavering support to help parents, caregivers, and learners navigate through the release of the Matric Results on the 19th of January 2024. We understand that the outcome of Matric Results can bring about several different feelings, SADAG would like to offer assistance in coping with the highs and lows of this journey.

Although this is a tough time for the Grade 12s, it is also hard for their parents, as their support plays a crucial role in shaping your child’s experience during this time. Parents and guardians may add unnecessary pressure by criticizing or setting high expectations. Family expectations can create negativity or even disillusionment. Parents should remember that whilst this may be an anxious time for them, they should also extend care and understand their child’s boundaries.

If you're a concerned parent, a caregiver, or a supporter of a student feeling anxious about the results, SADAG is hosting a Facebook Live Online on Wednesday, January 17th at 6 pm. This discussion will provide support and equip parents and caregivers with practical strategies for managing Anxiety, navigating the post-results period, and planning for the future, regardless of the results. Clinical Psychologist, Chris Kemp and Musa Chauke will join us as a Grade 12 Educator and Deputy Principal at Ferndale High School. They will share knowledge and give us helpful tips to navigate this journey. You can join through our Facebook Page.

SADAG spokesperson Vanishaa Gordhan says “It’s important that students take care of their Mental Health during this time because it can have long-term effects — take breaks and breathe.”

For all the Matriculants who may be anxious about their results. We are hosting an Instagram Live on our Instagram Page to offer guidance on managing Anxiety levels while navigating the post-results period. The Live will be on Thursday, 18th January at 1 pm . A guest from the Second Chances Programme will join us. They will provide support to learners who want to rewrite subjects and help them meet the requirements to obtain a Matric Certificate.

If you won't be able to join us on the Facebook and Instagram Live, don't worry you can find us on Tik Tok as we host a Matric Results Live speaking about how to cope and what's next! We will also be unpacking all the emotions you may be feeling, sharing coping strategies, and exploring the exciting possibilities that lie ahead! The Live will take place on Friday, 19th January 2024 at 1 pm and again at 6 pm. We are looking forward to seeing you all there.

Vanisha also advices: “It is important for the learner to feel that he has support from those around him or her, for them to follow a schedule that can ease their timeframe and to make sure they get enough rest during this time.”

Remember that success looks different for everyone. It does not need to mean getting all 'A's'. If you are working towards a goal for yourself, you are on the right path. Talk about your fears and feelings with your parents or trusted advisor. The most important thing is to remain calm. Once you have received your result, take a deep breath, and don't let a bad grade or two hold you back.

If you did not receive the report you wanted, it may feel like the end of the world, however, it is important to remember that some of the world’s most successful people experienced setbacks.

We wish you all the best. You can do this.
