BasicNeeds US

BasicNeeds US provides technical assistance, grants and advocacy for our global network to improve the well being of people living with mental illnesses in low resource settings around the world through innovative resident-led, community building strategies. For 15 years, BasicNeeds US has provided more than $500K in targeted financial support, technical assistance and advocacy for the BasicNeeds network of community mental health programs in more than 12 countries in Africa and South Asia. Our global BasicNeeds Network members, led by CBM UK, support the Model for Mental Health and Development. We promote participatory planning and research and are guided by the voices of residents, beginning first with people and families in recovery. We promote community organizing, organizing resident led groups for psychosocial support, provide micro-grants for cooperative livelihood projects, and continually promote access to mental health services through collaborations with primary care. The model has been widely recognized by international consumer groups, the World Health Organization, DFID, and global foundations such as Ashoka, the Skoll Foundation and Grand Challenges Canada.

Join with us in collective action for people with mental illnesses.
