Literacy is a luxury that many of us take for granted. That is why SADAG created SPEAKING BOOKS and revolutionized the way healthcare information is delivered to low literacy communities.

The customizable 16-page book, read by local celebrity audio recordings, ensures that vital health and social messages can be seen, heard, read and understood by everyone across the world.

We started with books on Teen Suicide prevention , HIV, AIDS and Depression, Understanding Mental Health and have developed over 100+ titles, such as TB, Malaria, Polio, Vaccines for over 45 countries.

As the walk progresses through the towns along the route, public talks are planned to educate communities around mental illness, with a specific focus on depression, anxiety and mood disorders. A focal point of this initiative is also to promote mental wellness, and the benefits of exercise as one of the strategies to combat depression. NHN Private Hospitals will be joining the Crazy for Walking initiative with members participating in the walk. They will also create nationwide awareness for Walking for mental health.
Louw says: “We’re encouraging all South Africans to do something a little different on 10 October, in celebration of World Mental Health Day and in solidarity with people suffering with mental illness. The initiative will include engagement with media, public figures and the public to participate, and to share their participation across Social Media, particularly Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
“We want to bring attention to a serious issue, in a fun manner,” says Nicolene Cronje, Project Manager. “We want people to activate their “inner child” and to demonstrate that suffering from mental illness, does not mean you can’t cope. Walking 1500km, is tough! In addition, we want to encourage people to seek help and where necessary, direct them to the appropriate resources and provide simple guidelines to improve mental wellness.”
