Mental health issues can affect anyone — 1 in 3 people will experience a Mental Health condition in their lifetime. Many of these struggles begin during the teenage years, as young people face pressures like academic stress, trauma, bullying, and grief. In South Africa, Depression and Anxiety are rising among learners, yet access to help is often limited.

SADAG’s “Teen Suicide Shouldn’t be a Secret” programme reaches every class, in every grade, in just one day — unpacking key topics like Depression, Teen Suicide Prevention, How to Help a Friend, and How to Get Support. With on-site counsellors, resources, and workshops for teachers, the programme offers real help where it’s needed most.

That’s why SADAG’s Schools Outreach Programme exists — to close the Mental Health gap by offering:

  • Class-by-class talks educating learners on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.

  • On-site counselling for immediate support and referral.

  • Workshops for teachers and parents to equip them with tools, resources, and vital information.

  • Practical Mental Health resources tailored for teens, parents and schools.

Together, these efforts aim to educate, support, and empower young people and those around them.
